You look into my eyes
And you see a map of my world.
Others shy away, yet you
Are an intrepid explorer.
You alone want to climb
The mountains of my mind,
Treacherous and steep though they be.
You wander lost
In these desperate deserts
Whilst scorched and thirsting
After water I will not give,
Until, one day, my bows will break,
And I will cry waterfalls.
The torrent of my soul
Could drown you, but you continue,
Plunging fearlessly into this ocean.
Here, it’s quiet and dark.
You swirl silently in the pressing depths,
Sinking, but never suffocating.
Eventually, light dapples the surface
And you emerge, safe once more.
You won’t rest until
You have seen every wonder
And witnessed life’s devastation;
You won’t rest until you have explored
Every inch of the map of my mind.
